Mismatched cousins reunite for a journey through Poland to pay their last respects to their beloved grandmother. When Benji and David visit their grandmother’s house in Poland, this is the place where Jesse Eisenberg’s real-life ancestors settled in the diaspora.Benji Kaplan: We keep moving, we keep light, we keep agile.David Kaplan: Yes.Benji Kaplan: The conductor comes right over and takes the tickets. They kicked us out because they thought we were stingy.. Saw this at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Previously, Jesse Eisenberg directed When You Finish Saving the World, which was interesting but unfortunately a bit annoying.
There were some soundtrack choices that felt a little out of place
Here, Eisenberg’s direction and screenplay for this film shows that he has improved massively, with many of the characters being interesting and engaging, good dialogue conversations, and great performances, especially from Kieran Culkin who steals the show throughout the film.The narrative explores family history and complicated bonds, as each of the themes and explorations on the themes were handled well, and it was fun, emotional, and engaging to watch. Including beautiful cinematography, good soundtrack and conversations that were real, authentic and exciting to follow. Eisenberg’s approach to chemistry, structure and pacing was good as he created a really good, engaging and personal story about family history and the true meaning of bonds and relationships.
But overall Eisenberg has improved and I look forward to seeing what else he can bring to the present
